dog safe plants

since spring time weather has already arrived before the actual season of spring has begun, i decided i was going to start planting some much needed flowers. our new home doesn't really have very many plants and i decided to first plant our flowers in the front of the house. while i was looking at all the beautiful colors and species of flowers, i thought, what am i going to plant in the backyard? i know what i was bringing home that day wouldn't really matter because it was going in the front of the house, not the backyard. only thing i know that grows in our neighborhood is oleander, and i know that is extremely toxic. so other than that, i was not really sure what exactly would be safe to plant in the backyard.

i went to aspca.org and realized every single flower i love, including the ones i had just purchased and  considering planting in the backyard, are all toxic.

these are the 5 i wanted to plant:
1. peonies
2. gardenia
3. buttercups (i bought persian buttercups for the front yard).
4. tulips
5. geranium

after reading through the toxic list, i went on to the non-toxic list. only problem with this list is that they don't have most of the actual pictures up, so it was hard to choose which ones i might be planting.

non-toxic ones i'm considering:

1. corn flower
2. pot marigold
3. scarborough lily
4. zinnia
5. goldfish plant- i don't think i've ever seen this plant before, but i think they are so cool because the flowers actually look like goldfish.

hopefully the aspca website will put more pictures up soon, so i can see what other options i may have. it's something that i have to research further, because my pups will eat just about anything on the floor; not their poo however and i am thankful for that!
